Over The Hill With Sherry

Traveling – It leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller

Well after leaving my job I knew my next big step was finding a home that I would be living in for at least a year.  The challenge was finding a used RV in my budget, had to be a diesel, was dependable and something I could handle and manage. So my thought was finding something no bigger than 28 ft. I came to Portland to see my son over Thanksgiving and shop for an RV. He found this one on craigslist at a family owned business in Estacada…. a 1993 Sun Voyager by Gulfstream with a Cummins Diesel and Allison transmission.  I liked it right away, but it was 34 feet! Is this something I could handle? it’s as big as a bus……… but I liked it, it was very nice inside, comfortable, roomy and lots of storage. So the next thing I needed to do was to make sure it was dependable. I asked the owner if he was open to me getting an independent mechanic to look at it. He had no problem with that and actually encouraged it. They wanted their customers to feel comfortable and confident in what they were buying and knew what they were getting. I found a mechanic nearby and he only charged me a $100.00 to check it out from top to bottom. Everything worked and was in good operating and running condition. They only had to replace a vent/fan that was broke.  During the few days, the mechanic had the RV and was checking it out I spent those days still looking and hunting for an RV. I wanted to be sure I was getting what I wanted and checking out my options. After a few days of checking craigslist for new listings, visiting a few RV dealers and making phone calls to RV dealers I just was not finding anything else. So I was very happy when I found that everything checked out on this RV and I was able to make an offer and seal the deal.

Hi Sharon, it was awesome to meet you and your family. You all made me feel so welcome. I headed out January 1st but not without a bump in the agenda. Corinne and Alyse bless their hearts tried to rescue me but we were unsuccessful. But I was determined and figured out what I needed to do to get that battery charged and so about 2:30 I was heading on my way. The last couple of days have been a learning curve for sure. I will blog here soon about my first few days. I have made it to Vacaville and will be here a few days to see friends and my brother will help me out with a few minor things on my RV. Sounds like I got out of Portland on time, just missing the snow.

Hello Sherry! So glad you finally got out on the road the 1st. Where there is a will there is a way. I have never corresponded on a blog before so I don’t even know if I am doing this correctly so if I mess up please let me know. Sad to see how low Shasta Lake is. I was grew up in Medford and Shasta Lake today is a far cry from Shasta Lake of yester-year. Thank you for sharing the photos. You look so happy in the seat of your new home and I am so happy and excited for you. May each day bring you safe travels and many blessings. Happy Trails, Sharon

I just realized I never replied to this post, so sorry. Yes, Shasta so low. I’ve never seen it so low either. Had family in California for years so trips over the years have been made past that lake. Sounds like the weather they have been getting is encouraging to bring up those water levels.

Thanks Sharon…..I and Chris spent 2-weeks together and went separate ways as of January 25. She was staying in Why another week and then going to Phoenix for some mission work. I went on to Tuscon and getting that blogged this week. I’m in Tombstone now, weather turned cold so have been hunkered down for a couple days, just venturing out today as it was little warmer. Each day suppose to get a little better. In the 20’s at night. Brrrr!

So good to hear from you! You were blessed to be able to have Chris for two weeks. You two looked like you were having a blast. Nothing like good gab time with a friend. We have been busy getting our home ready to put on the market and it is almost there. We had a pre-home inspection, and a stager in here this last Monday. Nothing too major needs to be fixed but boy the home stager sure gave me more work to do. Having a POD delivered tomorrow for the items already packed and put in the garage, and it will be picked up next Tuesday. Getting ready to move is not fun. What you are doing is a lot more fun and I am glad to travel with you vicariously. Take care and keep on rolling!!!!!!

Wow, sounds like your busy. Trying to prepare a house for sale and pack is hard and time consuming. So what are your plans once the house sells? You planning to travel?
It was great to travel with my friend and were going to see each other next week for a couple days in Phoenix. Then I’m going to the Superstitious Mountains, then catch a couple baseball training games in Peoria. Then heading for Blythe, CA to see my friends Konny and Carl. Seems every few days my trip plans keep evolving. It’s exciting and fun. I had a great time in Tombstone, met some great people who live part time at the RV park for the winter. I’m seriously thinking about spending more time there next winter as I really liked it, loved the small town, western feel.

So good to hear from you! The mission was beautiful, the artwork at the Boneyard was really fun [I don’t know anything about aircraft but find them amazing], and I feel like I was at Tombstone myself [now I want to go in person]. It is awesome you are sharing your travels. Anxious to see your new additions. Superstitious Mountains sound erie.
Yes, been crazy busy. We have a POD in our driveway now. Going to load it with what we have already packed and a few items of furniture, and then get rid of it in a couple of days. Will be so glad when the selling and moving is all done. No traveling this year except for our trip to San Diego and LA last month. Finding a new home and getting settled will probably be enough to keep me busy for awhile. Next year I do hope to go to Florida to visit one of my sisters, and maybe take a cruise to Alaska with a couple of friends.
Stay warm, keep having fun, keep on rolling 🙂

Hi Sharon its been quite awhile since I have heard from you. Hope all is well. My travels are continuing to go well. I have been in Las Vegas this past week and leaving tomorrow to head for Reno for a week and work my way back to Oregon and Washington for a couple months. Going to spend time with the grandkids over baseball season and babysit the dogs for Bryce and Alyse when they go to Hawaii in May. My blog is not all the way up today, I get behind with all my activities and visiting and finding good wifi connection. This site was free for on 3GB of data and I have just about used it up so am having to figure out something else as I don’t want to pay a bunch of money for a blog site. I am thinking of creating a new page just for my travels on FB that will be a closed group and only open to those invited. I don’t want it to be open to the public on FB and I would have unlimited use and space there. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.

So good to hear from you! I know – I have been bad about keeping in touch lately. Jeff has been transferred to the Safeway Woodstock store in Portland as manager, and I am praying we sell our home in Philomath. This is a blessing for us as we will be closer to our kids and grandkids. Getting the house ready to sell kept me very busy though. We even filled one POD and have it stored. Now that the weather is getting sunnier I am hoping we will sell. Jeff is staying at Corinne’s and I am coming up and visiting, and Jeff comes down and mows the lawn when needed. Keep on blogging when you can because I know everyone who follows you enjoys it. I know I do. Also, keep me posted on when you are headed back to Oregon so we can get together. Take care! Safe travels! Keep in touch!

Hey good to hear from you. Things have been busy for you all the last several months for sure. Glad you got through getting things stored so you can show the house. Yet I know it has to be tough being in two different places right now between your house and Corrine’s house. I also hope the house sells quickly so you and Jeff can get resettled and that will be so nice to be closer to your kids and grandkids. Yes I will keep on blogging. I have gotten behind because sometimes finding good wifi has not always been easy. Lots of times the RV parks have wif but its open and so slow or keeps kicking you off. Even sometimes I have paid for it and still not good. I have sat in Taco Bell’s and Safeway and used their wifi’s and end up meeting people which is always interesting but then it also side tracks me from getting the blogging done. I was also am recently at a dilemma with the blogging as I sign up for the free one which only gave me 3GB of data. I have put on a lot of pictures which takes up a lot of data. I am going to have to do some modification of the site and just put 3-4 of the best pictures with my writings plus hashtags which gives those surfing the internet referral to my site with words that match.. I have created a new FB page called Trailer Travels where I will post extra pictures. Do you use FB at all. I will then soon have to pay for my page $99.00 for a year that will give me 30GB of data. What I want to do his get more readers so that advertisers will want to advertise on my page and be able to make some money from the blogging so I am gradually going to be working towards that goal. I am currently in Reno NV and will be here for the week. I should be back in Oregon around the 20th. I need to be back in Wasington by the 25th so I can start catcing some of my grand-daughters softball games. Turns out she does not have that many games this season and in May I am babysitting the dogs for Bryce and Alyse for a week. I will be in touch when it gets closer to me getting to Oregon and see if something works out to see each other.
